University Open Days 2026

We want to make your visit to the University Open Days as stress-free as possible, so have put together this guide to help you find the best bus route to the sites and Colleges you want to see. We’ve shown bus routes that stop closest to each destination, and run frequently throughout the day - most buses run at least every 15 minutes. 

Bus stop names are the same that online journey planners use (e.g. Google) and also shown on the on board announcements on most buses. If you’re not sure, just ask the driver or one of our travel ambassadors. 

Buying your ticket

Buses on routes U1 and U2 (‘Universal’) are run by Whippet. Park & ride buses, and those on routes A, 1, 3 and 7, are run by Stagecoach.

You can buy single tickets and all-day tickets for Whippet or Stagecoach buses. Pay for all bus tickets when you get on with cash or contactless (including Apple Pay and Google Pay).

Stagecoach tickets can be used on the Whippet Universal route to return to Madingley Road park & ride site. Stagecoach routes will not accept Whippet tickets. If you want to travel on routes run by either bus operator, ask for a Multibus ticket - valid on any bus except Stagecoach route A. 

Tickets for Stagecoach buses:

Cambridge park & ride return ticket	£4.50	per person - return to city centre on park&ride bus only
all day tickets	£6.50	per person
	£9.50	any 3 people travelling together
	£14	any 5 people travelling together

Tickets for Whippet buses, including Universal:

all day tickets	£5.50	per person (adults)
	£4.20	per person (students with ID, or children)
	£8	1 adult & 2 children travelling together
	£14	2 adults & 2 children travelling together

The guide shows the best buses to each University site, organised by the most common places you might arrive at Cambridge - the rail station, Madingley Road park & ride site or Trumpington park & ride site.

We'll have Travel Ambassadors at key locations around the city to help, or just ask one of our drivers if you're not sure where to go.
