Free bus travel for 5-15 year olds

Whippet have joined the Governments Great British Summer Savings scheme, with free bus travel for 5-15 year olds on Whippet bus routes across Cambridgeshire.

The scheme runs from 1 - 31 August 2026, and runs alongside other offers at many attractions in the region - helping you and your family see and do more this summer. Find out more about how you could benefit from Great British Summer Savings here - http://www.summersavings.gov.uk/

FAQs about the free bus travel scheme

Who is eligible for free bus travel?
Anyone aged 5-15 on the day they travel. We recommend anyone under 11 is accompanied by any adult.

Do I have to prove my age?
Our drivers may ask you to prove your age to qualify for free travel. This is to prevent people abusing the scheme and travelling for free when they’re not entitled to. If our driver believes you are 16 or over, you will be asked to pay the normal fare. Any form of photo ID can be used.

How do I travel for free?
When you get on the bus, as for a 'Free Child Single' ticket - the driver will print a paper ticket for your journey

I already have a child season ticket - is this included in the scheme?
Unfortunately the scheme only funds single journeys. If you usually buy a season ticket, we recommend asking for a Free Child Single ticket during August instead.

Which routes is free child travel available on?
5-15 year olds can travel for free on all Whippet bus routes in Cambridgeshire. Free child travel is not valid on Blue Arrow X1, or routes 101/102 to Hunstanton or Clacton. 

I have a CPCA Tiger pass - can I travel for free?
Free child travel is only for those aged 5-15; if you're aged 16 - 25 and have a CPCA Tiger pass, you'll need to pay the standard £1 Tiger fare please
