Punting in Cambridge dates back to the nineteenth century, and Scudamore’s have been offering punting from as long ago as 1910. Whippet have teamed up with Scudamore’s to offer 20% off boat hire and experiences along two routes for anyone travelling to Cambridge by bus. Simply show your bus ticket (paper tickets, mobile tickets and Tap On Tap Off receipts used within the past 30 days are all accepted) and enjoy a leisurely adventure on the river.
Hire a punt for the College Backs and see the Mathematical Bridge, pass by the world-famous King’s College Chapel and admire the Wren Library. College Backs punts are available from Scudamore’s station in Mill Lane or The Boatyard (Universal buses stop at Silver Street, right next door, or 18/X3 buses stop in Drummer Street/Emmanuel Street about a 5-10 minute walk away) or from Quayside (X3 buses drop off at Bridge Street).
You can also hire canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards and punts for the more rural route in the direction of the ‘upriver resort’ of Grantchester Meadows. Grantchester boats are available from Scudamore’s station in Mill Lane.
Scudamore’s also offer a whole range of punting experiences – from Bat Safaris to treasure hunts and firework nights.
